And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. – Acts 2:46 – 47

And the Lord added to the church daily… I was looking for this bit of scripture to start out this iteration of “The Pastor’s Corner” and God continues to amaze me by how He guides my life…but more on that later.

God continues to bless RPCC and we continue to grow – in numbers, in capacity, in service, in love.  You may have noticed that it is getting increasingly difficult to find a seat on Sunday mornings – in fact, we have added a row of chairs in the back and have scoped out space for an additional row up front.

Considering our humble beginnings four years ago this is quite amazing!  I am considering offering another service on Sundays from 8:30 to 9:45.  We would still have Sunday School at 10:00 and a second service at 11:00.  Probably initially at least, we would not have a “children’s church” during the early service.

As we continue to grow in numbers though there is something that troubles me:  We are becoming “less welcoming” than we were when we were small.  It is getting to the point where it is difficult to remember all of the names and faces and I think some of us fear embarrassing ourselves or others by asking for their name a second (or in my case, a third, and a fourth) time.

For those who have been at RPCC for over a year I ask that you think back on your first few visits.  Remember how you were greeted, how people came up to you and spoke with you – how good that made you feel.  The most common comment I heard was that “RPCC was so real”.  I ask you as your pastor to look for people you don’t know – and make them feel as welcome as you felt when you first came to RPCC.

To accommodate the growth God has blessed us with, we are expanding.  The RPCC Annex is almost ready.  It will have two large restrooms, a church office, nursery, quiet room where you may go to pray or have a private conversation, a storage room, a large space we will use for classes and fellowship activities, and yes – even a pastor’s office.  As I type this electricity is being run to the annex and the plumbing is being fixed.  Very soon the deck will be added and then we will consecrate the annex to Him and open it up for use.  It’s been a long time coming and I praise God for providing it.

We have our annual bonfire coming up on 23 October.  This is always a wonderful time of fellowship, food, music and fun.  It is a great event to invite your neighbors and friends to – please do!  We will be starting our Holiday Food Drive at that time and we ask everyone to bring a non-perishable food item to the bonfire.  We will use this food in the food baskets we prepare and distribute during the holiday season (Thanksgiving through Christmas).  If you know of anyone who could use a hand up at this time or any other time – please get with me, Paulette, or Doug.

RPCC is not a “program church”.  We don’t create programs or small groups and then encourage you to participate.  But we do try to facilitate and encourage fellowship, discipleship, and love.  Instead of building something and inviting God to bless it – we have been trying to follow where He leads.

One area where He is leading includes Wednesday night Bible study.  This is very free flowing and while we do usually start with an agenda – we rarely stick to it and instead allow the Spirit to move us as He will.  We start at 7 pm and finish officially at 8 pm but there are usually folks still around at 9:30.

Doug and Melinda are hosting a “home group” on Thursdays and I think it’s neat that not everyone who attends also attends RPCC.  The Church is all of God’s chosen – not just those who meet in a particular location on Sunday.

Several women have been meeting on a sporadic but fairly frequent basis for coffee/tea and yummies on Fridays and recently a group got together to shear sheep – something none of them had ever done before.  This kind of loving community and fellowship is a huge part of what “church” is all about and something we are trying to re-capture at RPCC.

We have a ministry to Easton Country Care on Wednesday mornings chatting with the residents, sharing a Word, perhaps some scripture – if you feel led to participate there is room for you!

We have Brothers (and some Sisters!) getting together to work on cars, or construction projects or wood chopping parties; we have Sisters coming together during the week to just chat, or work on crafts, or homeschool.

Several Brothers and Sisters are beginning to meet to discuss Christians in Community – what does that look like today?  How could this work? And what would go into an intentional community focused on Christ?  We don’t know where we are going and we plan on following where the Spirit leads us – I am excited about it!  Through all of these activities, God is present, the Holy Spirit fills the space and Jesus is on our lips.  There is a lot of love flowing – love for each other, for our neighbors and most of all for God.

Hey, that’s enough for this time!

In Christ,

Joe

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.  – Hebrews 13:15 - 16

Greetings in the name of our Lord, Christ Jesus!

The Lord has been mightily blessing us at Round Prairie Community Church and I’d like to take some time to tell you about it.

Sunday school has grown large enough that we have had to move from the fellowship hall into the sanctuary – this is a good thing. We are currently studying and discussing Spiritual Disciplines and how they should be a part of our lives. We prayed for more children to attend RPCC and we have certainly been blessed in this area – we are now considering splitting the children’s classes into three sections – Babies, Toddlers, and Kiddos. We are also investigating starting up a Youth Group for our teens.

We will have our first Prayer Meeting on Sunday night and if God wills it we will continue to do so on Sunday evenings. We look forward to this time of worship and prayer and invite you stop on by.

On Wednesday evenings we begin at 6:30 pm with worship music – anyone who wants to play or sing or just come and listen is welcome. We then work together on a Bible Study and are currently studying the words of Christ. This is a free ranging time of fellowship, prayer and study of the Word and we always leave feeling much refreshed. All are welcome.

Thursday afternoons the Worship Team has rehearsal for Sunday and those who wish to participate as part of the Worship Team are free to attend and play/sing with the Team. As new folks become familiar and comfortable with the process and “style” they may be invited to participate on Sundays also. What is our style? In a word – “Evolving”. I would also say “Spirit-led” and “Eclectic”. We worship with a mixture (as God leads our Director and the team) of bluegrass, old hymns, “modern worship songs” and so on. Some find it “unique”.

Every other Friday the women gather at a local establishment – Hilltop, Harbor Lights, Potter Store, etc – for fellowship, prayer and Christ-centered discussions. Like everything we do this is open to all. In this case – all women.

Some things we have in the works are a service project to replace the porch of elderly women who really cannot do it themselves; a children’s ministry to assist in the care for some young children who really need to feel Christ’s love (and let’s face it – who doesn’t?); and exploring some opportunities to work other local churches to help shine the Light on our community. We are also investigating taping the services for broadcast on this site – stay tuned.

Some time ago a brother in Christ spoke a word of prophecy that “the trees were going to come down around Round Prairie to make room for expansion.” Well, it looks like we will be taking out some trees to make room for a temporary annex so that we can have more classroom space and bathrooms. We invite your prayers in this matter.

As always – if you have a church home I encourage you to become active there. If you do not have one or if you are looking for more or something different in your walk – I invite you to Round Prairie Community Church. All who are searching for meaning or a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ are welcome – bring a friend!

I look forward to meeting you.

In Christ,

February 2009

Greetings in the name of our Lord – Jesus Christ! I am pleased to announce we have restarted Sunday School at 10 am. Some folks get hung up on the name – if it offends you, call it something else! We will be digging into our Bibles, discussing what we read and drawing life lessons from the experience – please come.

We are also meeting on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm for about an hour and on alternate weeks we do Bible Study on the Purpose of the Church or we Worship with music and song. If you have an instrument – bring it. In addition to praying, worshipping, studying, and so on we also have a great deal of fellowship – we talk about anything and everything and grow loser
as a body. All are welcome.

A trend I have noticed with RPCC is that of producing our own food in varying degrees and doing things for ourselves. Examples: We have bee keepers, cattle “ranchers”, goatherds, chicken wranglers and gardeners with thumbs ranging in color from dark green to brown. We have people who build things with wood, weld metal, work on vehicles, and cut firewood. while this is interesting in and of itself what pleases me as pastor is how people help each other out and share – there is a real sense of community.

Speaking of community – we finished our January revival in Easton and it was a great success. God sent large numbers each week and our prayers now are for those people to continue to reach out to the lost in Easton and help lead them to Jesus. God doesn’t want us to be just pew-sitters – He wants us out there spreading the Good News! Brother Ty is heading the Widows Project which currently involves three other churches and will become a community outreach to those who are oft times overlooked in our society. It is still taking shape and form but for now we are asking each of you to look around, identify widows, attempt to learn something about them and pass that information along to Ty. Soon we will be asking for your help in more specific ways.

Angel Food Ministries continues to provide good food for low prices to the community – anyone is welcome (and encouraged) to participate. We will probably start up preparedness classes again to run concurrently with food distribution one Saturday a month. If you have ideas, requests, or suggestions for specific topics – please let me know. Well that’s about it for this edition – I pray that each of you come to know the Peace that is Jesus Christ; that you develop a deep relationship with Him and that you let Him guide your steps along the path.

In Christ,

Pastor’s Corner - October 2008

Welcome to our website!

If you have a church home, I encourage you to become active there. If you do not have church or are searching for something more or something different then I invite you to come check out our little church in the country. To that end, I reckon I’ll tell you a little bit about us. We are first and foremost a Bible based church. By that I mean we dig into our Bibles, we read them, we discuss the Word and most of the sermons seek to explain God’s Word in a way that is understandable and meaningful
for everyone.

We are non-denominational in the broadest sense. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour or if you are honestly seeking a relationship with him, or even just looking for more meaning in your life – you are welcome at Round Prairie. We don’t care if you are or were Protestant, Catholic, or any other denomination – we worship Jesus Christ pure and simple and you are welcome to join us.

We are much like a family and we do a lot of things together. I’m not just talking about “church activities” either - we are THERE for each other. New visitors may find this a little off-putting at first but I think you will find us warm and welcoming.

We don’t put on airs. You can wear what you want to church – jeans and sweat shirt, slacks, dresses – it’s all good and we really don’t care. Compared to God’s glory, everything we own is filthy rags anyway. We don’t make new visitors stand up and introduce themselves; we don’t pass an offering plate; and we won’t pressure you. One comment I hear often from new folks is that we are “real”. Yep, that’s us.

So, that is a brief intro to who we are. I’d love hear from you – just drop me a line through this website or better yet – come to church! Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you soon.

Yours in Christ,

Joe Fox
